First, the good news. Thanks in large part to Councilwoman Laura Pizmoht’s expertise in tax incentives, the Hospice of the Western Reserve located its administrative offices to Willoughby Hills, bringing millions of dollars in payroll to the City! Word is that another large employer is looking to make a similar deal to bring jobs to the Shoppes of Willoughby Hills. Also, the Lake YMCA’s Dream House will be in the city’s Maple Hill Development.
There is also a plan for Aldi to move into the old Sears Hardware building on Bishop Road next to McDonalds. This might be part of the reason for the bad news. Giant Eagle just announced it will be closing in a month. While it’s not surprising, it’s still disappointing. Hopefully, the momentum of the other new businesses coming into the city won’t leave the storefront vacant for too long!
